The past two weekends I road-tripped up to Oklahoma to attend bridal showers for my cousin Hayley. With a dirty chai latte in hand (Dirty chai= chai tea latte with a shot of espresso. Life changing.), Taylor Swift’s new album blasting through my speakers, and a gift bag sitting in my front seat, I could hardly contain my excitement to finally be reunited with my family and most importantly, the bride-to-be, Hayley. Hayley is my older cousin and I easily call her one of my role models and best friends. Regardless of our 5 year age gap, we’ve always been super close. We are the only girl cousins on my mom’s side of the family and always have a ton of fun together. Living in Texas now for school makes me so much closer and I was more than happy to make the trip for a weekend celebration and get away.
Hayley is engaged to Brandon. Here is a photo of them- adorable right? They’re getting married January 3rd- so exciting!!
Okay sorry for the diversion. I thought you’d appreciate their adorable engagement photo though. Back to the showers.
The first shower was a bridal shower with just girls. Super cute, super girly, super festive. I’ve of course seen bridal showers and decor online, but I don’t think I had ever been to one until now. My expectations were reached and surpassed. Here’s a run down of the shower:
Food– Yogurt bar, fruit, and granola. Delicious cookies (I definitely ate too many). Coffee, lemonade, mimosas, and tea, all served out of cute pitcher dispensers.
Decor– Simple and cute. Ribbon banners. Pastel colors. Crafty and thoughtful touches (including my favorite, standing letters of her new last name decorated with ribbon, buttons, and various fabrics).
Location- A woman’s house. Very nice and grand, perfect setting for a girl’s afternoon celebration
Highlights- Hayley opened her gifts, I chatted with the other bridesmaids (this was my first time meeting some of them- so fun!), chatted with family and friends there. I helped pack up gifts and load them into the car (SO many beautiful gifts. You guys, wedding showers are like Christmas), tried on my Maid of Honor dress (LOVE it!), and spent some quality time after the shower just hanging out with Hayley and Brandon. This was my first time meeting him and it was great to see how in love they were!
Here’s a photo of me at the shower with Hayley!
The second shower was the following weekend! This one was much more formal couple’s shower at nighttime with many more guests. My mom came into town (so much fun!!) and we drove up to Oklahoma from Texas with my aunt and uncle. Our road trip was so fun- family can literally make you laugh until you cry. Once we got to Oklahoma, we just relaxed until the shower that took place that night. Here are the details:
Food– Cookies, petit fours, fruit, drinks, and light dinner options.
Decor– Minimal and tasteful. White and purple colors were incorporated (the wedding colors). The gifts were displayed on tables throughout the party for guests to observe.
Location- A couple’s house. Very spacious- perfect for the amount of guests there.
Highlights- Everyone mingled with each other. It was fun to catch up with family friends I hadn’t seen in a while and meet many new faces. My mom and I spent and a lot of time together which was great. I (with the help of my aunt) recorded all fo the gifts so Hayley could write proper thank you notes after the wedding. I got a chance to talk with the bridesmaids some more which was a lot of fun. The night lasted for 3-4 hours and eventually it was time for everyone to go home. We stayed to help pack up all of the gifts and loaded them into the car. My mom, aunt, and uncle and I ended the night by driving through Braums to celebrate the end of a great day.
Here’s a photo of the girls of my family- myself, my two aunts, my mom, and Hayley!
That’s all for now! Stay tuned for more weddings coming your way!
